Herding for Health measures impact and learns from each site to enhance implementation and outcomes. For example, adaptive management of grazing, herd health, and fire plans is possible when based on data and informed by current and forecasted conditions. Regular monitoring by the programme tracks results using a system that combines ground-based and satellite data. There are several core indicators that align with the four pillars of the programme: healthy rangelands, healthy animals, thriving livelihoods, and strong governance and enabling policy. These data are fed into a reporting platform via tools like EarthRanger and Africa Rangeland Watch to automate and standardise monitoring. The data are further evaluated and used to make management decisions, improve implementation and impact.
Additional tools are currently under development, but for more information contact the H4H technical team.
